Preparing to Depart!

The days are winding down until we depart Vermillion and travel to San Francisco! For many of us this will be our first trip to the "City by the Bay" and we are looking forward to working with and meeting the many new people that will enter our lives in some capacity.

We have been preparing for this trip for the last several months. Ten students and two staff members have been exploring the issues of homelessness, poverty, at-risk youth, and HIV/AIDS. The information we have found through researching the issues is important but we all look forward to working with these issues on a more personal level.

The agencies we will be working with include:

R.O.C.K. (Real Options for City Kids)

San Francisco Food Bank

Bay Area Rescue Mission

Project Open Hand

Tenderloin Health

Our group is a dynamic mix of talented individuals from various backgrounds with different experiences. It has been a pleasure to witness the unique personalities emerging, the friendships forming, and the anticipation building. The goal of this blog is to bring you closer to the activities we will be doing. Check back frequently as the AWOL team will be blogging and posting pictures documenting our adventures.
